LEAVES! BOOK ACTIVITIES
Fall is here, and so is the new book Leaves! by Robert Munsch. It is the perfect book to read in Kindergarten and First Grade during the autumn season! Leaves, leaves, everywhere!
In the story, dad notices that the yard is covered in leaves. He announces that they are going to rake the leaves to get rid of them.
The children head into the garage in search of rakes. Only, Sydney finds dad's leaf blower. Soon she has blown all the leaves into a giant pile. But in doing so, she has lost her little sister! Ooops!
After digging out their sibling, Alex decides to try the leaf blower. He gives it even more power, and makes a giant leaf pile. Only in doing so he covers up Sydney! Oops!
Dad is frustrated. The children are supposed to be using rakes, not his leaf blower. Dad takes the leaf blower to show them how it should be used.
Dad cranks the power to WHOA!!! and blew all the leaves, plus the table, the chairs, the swing, and everything else in the backyard into a giant pile.
Only mom had been working in the garden...and is now buried under the giant leaf pile. Oops! Mom proceeds to throw the leaf blower in the garbage, and everyone grabs a rake to clean up the leaves.
This unit includes a craftivity where students can do a story retell or write about their favorite part of the story. It makes a great fall bulletin board display, to showcase student learning!
This book activities unit is packed with fun literacy companion activities to go with the book Leaves! by Robert Munsch. It's perfect for a fall theme in Kindergarten and First Grade!
