Rainbow Writing Activities | Alphabet and Sight Word Practice
RAINBOW WRITING ACTIVITIES
Rainbow Writing is a FUN way for students to practice forming letters and words! When students Rainbow Write, they trace over the letters using different colors. They can use anything colorful to write with- crayons, colored pencils, markers. By tracing and retracing the letters, they are creating a rainbow of colors as they write!
Because Rainbow Writing is something different, it makes the task of learning how to print letters and words FUN. It's just not as fun using a plain old pencil ;)
In this activity, students are practicing their letter learning. Students are searching for the target letters (both uppercase and lowercase) and making these letters Rainbow Letters by stamping them with colorful Bingo daubers, circling them with markers, colored pencils or crayons, or highlighting them with colorful highlighters.
In this activity, students are practicing proper letter formation by tracing over dashed letters over and over again using different colors...Rainbow Writing!
This activity is a simple and effective Kindergarten literacy center! At this work station, students have a bin of target letters to trace, worksheets, and a few buckets of markers. Easy!

Later in the year, I introduced the Sight Word portion of the Rainbow Writing activities pack. As with alphabet printing, students Rainbow Write sight words for extra practice with letter formation, spelling, and reading.
They also had pages to make Rainbow Words, where students had to search for the target sight words and make these words into Rainbow Words by stamping them with colorful Bingo daubers, circling them with markers, colored pencils or crayons, or highlighting them with colorful highlighters.
